Ongoing guidance

What to expect from our first appointment

If your child or teenager has a food allergy, I understand how overwhelming it can feel — reading every label, planning every meal, and constantly worrying about what’s safe. Whether the allergy is new or something you’ve been managing for a while, my goal is to help you feel more confident and informed.

During our initial appointment, I take the time to really get to know you and your child. Every young person is different, so I tailor my approach depending on their age, personality, and needs. I always aim to create a safe, friendly space where children feel at ease and teenagers feel heard.

We’ll talk through:

  • The specific food allergy (or allergies), how they were diagnosed, and how reactions have been managed

  • Your child’s current eating habits, food preferences, and any challenges at home, school, or when eating out

  • Any concerns you may have about their nutrition, growth, or how the allergy is impacting their daily life

I’ll also review growth and development (if appropriate), help spot any nutritional gaps, and make  reasonable and practical suggestions to keep meals both safe and balanced.

But I don’t just focus on food — I know food allergies can affect confidence, social life, and emotional wellbeing. I’m here to listen and offer support in those areas too, or signpost you to other professionals if needed.

By the end of the session, you’ll have:

  • Clear, practical guidance on managing the allergy safely

  • Advice tailored to your child’s age, development, and lifestyle

  • Support with label reading, meal planning, and navigating social situations

  • A plan for follow-up, so you’re not facing this alone

Whether you're a parent of a toddler just starting solids or a teen navigating independence with a serious allergy, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Follow-Up Appointments

Ongoing Support for Managing Food Allergies

Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes long and my chance to check in, see how things are going, and adjust the plan as your child grows and life changes. Whether there are new challenges, a change in you child's appetite, or you just want reassurance, I’m here to support you.

In these sessions, we’ll review:

  • How your child has been coping with their food allergy day-to-day

  • Any issues with food choices, growth, or eating habits

  • Progress with the plan we set, and whether anything needs updating

Depending on your child’s age, we might talk more about independence, eating out, or managing allergies at nursery, school or university. If new allergies have been identified—or if there’s hope of reintroducing foods—we’ll explore the safest next steps together.

These appointments are flexible and guided by your needs. My aim is to make sure your child is thriving - nutritionally, emotionally, and socially - while keeping things practical and realistic for your family.
